In less than a week comes the week of the year that for the last decade or so (that I haven't been counting) is my favorite time of the summer. It'll be the 4th of July, but more important to me, it will be when my most beloved friends from afar commune for a week of catching up, and downing a few.
Along with all that a week at the cabin has to offer, swimming, boating, jet skiing, fishing, and just relaxing, over the years we have established traditions of our own that make the experience just that much more grand. Crossword competition, beer-bong bocce ball, perverted mad libs, and flip the hammock, just to name a few.
Overall, my past time pick is when we gather at the end of the day around the fire to partake in a game in which we call truth or truth. We left out the dare because, let's be honest, we are all long past the prime of ding-dong-ditching and prank calling the boys that we like.
It's self explanatory really, we go no holds barred and one by one and ask the most obscure and personal questions that we can come up with.
Yet after many years, and practically already knowing all there is to know about each other, it's become more of a challenge to come up with ways to interrogate one another.
So in preparation for this blessed upcoming event, I took it upon myself to do a little research.
Most of the web sites under "questions to ask" were to say the least, pretty pathetic. So after searching numerous phrases, I finally stumbled upon one that will definitely keep the conversation going for hours. These questions are not the kind that you just ask at random. Nor are they the type that are easily answered without absolute certainty. You wouldn't just text them to your best friend. Besides, I would never compromise our precious R rated nursery rhyme time with these ponderous queries...
...So comrades, I give to you a few beforehand so that I am not at an unfair advantage when the battle ensues.
"What is it that gives something genuine value?" "What things are really worth striving for?" "Is all value subjective?" My favorite, which will for sure cause a stir, "Can we have ethical values without religion?"
Don't feel bombarded, I can assure you that I have at least twice as many "Which would you poison, fuck, and marry" in the line up to cool us down once the debate gets heated.
